SÓCRATES E A VIDA DIGNA DE SER VIVIDA

Resumo

O intelectualismo moral socrático centraliza-se na tese da identidade da virtude com o conhecimento, que é a ciência do bem.  A virtude ou ciência do bem é o que garante a vida boa e feliz. No entanto, como mostrado na Apologia de Sócrates de Platão, a ignorância faz parte da condição humana; então, para o homem escapar da ignorância e do vícios que acarreta, Sócrates exortava a dedicar-se ao exame de si mesmo e dos outros como meio para obter o autoconhecimento necessário para todo progresso moral e intelectual. Ainda que os seres humanos não consigam atingir o conhecimento moral e a felicidade plena que têm os deuses, a vida examinada e de busca da virtude, segundo Sócrates, é para qualquer um a mais digna de ser vivida, pois confere, na medida do humanamente possível, a sabedoria e a felicidade.

Socrates On Life Worthy Of Living

Abstract: The Socratic moral intelectualism is centered on the thesis of the identity between virtue and knowledge, which is the science of good. Virtue or science of good guarantees the good and happy life. However, as shown in the Plato’s Apology of Socrates, ignorance is part of the human condition; so, for man escaping from ignorance and all of its resultant vices, Socrates exhorted every one to dedicate to the self-examination and the examination of the others as a means to achieve the self-knowledge necessary for all moral and intelectual progress. Although the human beings are not able to achieve the moral knowledge and complete happiness that the gods have, the examined life and of persuit of virtue, according to Socrates, is for everyone the most worthy life of living, since it confers on an individual, to the extent of humanly possible, wisdom and happiness.
