AS ATITUDES REATIVAS E A ÉTICA DE PETER STRAWSON

Resumo

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar como as atitudes reativas constituem o ponto de partida da proposta ética de Peter Strawson. Segundo este autor, as atitudes reativas são disposições enraizadas na nossa natureza tal como a nossa existência como seres sociais. É, pois, no marco das relações interpessoais participativas comuns que elas aparecem sendo a resultante do valor conferido às atitudes que acompanham as ações dos outros seres humanos, sejam elas de boa ou má vontade, de indiferença ou malevolência. Assim, estas questões são abordadas por Strawson desde a perspectiva do senso comum. Isto significa que, para este filósofo, interessa aquela compreensão mais primitiva e corriqueira que se tem a respeito do que significamos com o termo “moral” e que expressamos através da linguagem comum. Consistente com sua concepção de filosofia como análise conectiva de conceitos, Strawson apresenta em Freedom and Resentment (1962), uma rede ou sistema conceitual, cuja trama esta constituída pelas atitudes reativas tanto pessoais, como o ressentimento, quanto vicárias ou impessoais, como a indignação moral. A partir delas, Strawson procura elucidar a liberdade humana e a responsabilidade moral, assim como também as expressões de aprovação, desaprovação ou condenação moral.

Reactive Attitudes And Peter Strawson Ethics

Abstract: The object of this paper is to present how the reactive attitudes constitute the starting point of ethics proposed by Peter Strawson. According to this author, the reactive attitudes are entrenched provisions in our nature as our existence as social beings. It is therefore within the framework of common participatory interpersonal relationships which they appear and the resulting value given to the attitudes reactive measures are rooted in our nature as our existence as social beings. It is therefore within the framework of common participatory interpersonal relationships that they appear and the resulting value given to the attitudes that accompany the actions of other human beings, be they good or ill will, indifference or malevolence. These issues are addressed by Strawson from the perspective of common sense. This means that, for this philosopher, that matters most primitive and quite common understanding that people have about what we mean by the term "moral" and we express through commom language. Consistent with his conception of philosophy as connective analysis of concepts, Strawson has in Freedom and Resentement (1962), a network or conceptual system whose plot is constituted by both personal reactive attitudes such as resentment, as vicarious or impersonals, as moral indignation. From them, Strawson tries to elucidate human freedom and moral responsibility, as well as the expressions of approval, disapproval or moral condemnation.
