MORALIDADE SOCIAL E SENTIMENTOS MORAIS

Resumo

A relação entre a responsabilidade moral e o livre-arbítrio constitui um dos principais problemas ligados à moralidade. As tradicionais formas de tratar essa questão são o determinismo e o indeterminismo. Uma nova maneira é apresentada por Peter Strawson, através da sua proposta de naturalização da responsabilidade moral. Em outras palavras, a atribuição de responsabilidade não se dá pela sua relação com o livre-arbítrio, mas sim de acordo com o sistema de atitudes reativas, tais como indignação, ressentimento e culpa. A justificação das nossas crenças morais e das atitudes reativas sempre ocorre internamente a esse sistema, de modo que ele é um sistema de exigências recíprocas, de acordo com o qual podemos avaliar as ações dos agentes.

Social Morality and Moral Feelings

Abstract: The relationship between moral responsibility and free will is one of the main problems linked to morality. The traditional ways of treating this question are both determinism and indeterminism. A new way is presented by Peter Strawson, through his proposal of naturalization of the moral responsibility. In other words, the law of responsibility is not given by its relationship with free will, but on the other hand according to the system of reactive attitudes such as indignation, resentment and guilt. The justification for both our moral beliefs and reactive attitudes always occurs internally to the system, so that it is a system of reciprocal demands, according to which we can evaluate the agent’s actions.
