CULTURA E SENTIDO NA FILOSOFIA DA RELIGIÃO DE PAUL TILLICH

Resumo

Em seu texto intitulado Filosofia da Religião, publicado na Alemanha na década de 1920, o teólogo alemão Paul Tillich discorre sobre a importância da ideia de sentido, ou significado, como fundamento de todos os atos culturais e de todos os aspectos da cultura. Seu argumento, porém, o conduz à questão mais fundamental nestas reflexões, que é a pergunta sobre o sentido do próprio sentido. Tal pergunta, por sua vez, permearia toda a cultura e extrapolaria o âmbito da filosofia, constituindo o cerne da própria religião. A leitura de obras mais tardias de Tillich indica que estas considerações sobre sentido permaneceram relevantes no pensamento deste teólogo e filósofo até o fim de sua vida.

ABSTRACT

In his text called Philosophy of Religion, published in Germany during the 1920’s, German theologian and philosopher Paul Tillich discourses about the importance of the idea of meaning as the ground of every single cultural act, and of all aspects of culture. His argument, however, leads him to the most fundamental question in these reflections: the question about the meaning of meaning. This question, in its turn, would permeate all the culture and would extrapolate the field of philosophy, composing the core of religion itself. Reading Tillich’s latter works, one can see that this consideration about meaning remain relevant in the aforesaid philosopher’s thought until the end of his life.
